A windy warm Friday afternoon. 72 and half minutes or 1.12.24 to be precise, which means I have well and truly smashed my target!
Today’s effort was two and a half minutes better than my last ride on an evening that was fairly warm and quite windy. Not surprisingly I had six personal segment records and nine other second or third best times. Importantly, in terms of my performance, some of these were in the first half of the ride so I picked up my game there, and still made gains in the second half of the circuit.
As always when there is a bit of a breeze it never seems to be in my favour and I got held up on a downhill section by a (younger) slower rider on a downhill section so I still don’t’ feel as if I have put together a perfect effort yet.
To put this in some sort of perspective, this effort was about nine minutes faster than on a similar date last year when my target was to crack the one hour and twenty minute mark.
I’d like to believe that the new bike had nothing to do with this achievement but I’m picking it has. Better components and gearing and all that. Not to worry, given the shitty year I have had, I’m pretty pleased with myself.
Almost as satisfying as smashing my record was catching several (much) younger riders on a couple of climbs, so all in all a great afternoon and I’m going to have a couple of beers to celebrate and work out my next riding obsession is.
